What is the difference between Virtual MRU and Projection mode?
When you set up a remote monitoring point, for example at a crane tip, the MRU calculates the motion at that point from its own measurements and the lever arm you enter. There are two remote modes.
Virtual MRU (default): The output at the remote point behaves as if the MRU were installed there. A static heave offset caused by a lasting tilt or heel of the vessel will gradually return to zero.
Projection mode: The motion is moved to the remote point by pure geometry. A static vertical offset at that point caused by tilt or heel is kept and does not return to zero.
Virtual MRU is typically used for heave compensation and survey applications. Projection mode is useful when you expect a lasting heel change during the operation, such as a heavy lift, and want to see the resulting vertical offset at the crane tip. In this case the MRU should be mounted in the centre of rotation.
