What is the cheapest motion sensor for offshore use?
Norwegian Subsea offers a range of high-performance Motion Reference Units (MRUs) designed for various marine and offshore environments, balancing cost-effectiveness with robust performance. When considering the most affordable option for offshore use, the specific mounting location and environmental exposure are key factors.
Our MRU Compact is the most cost-effective sensor in our portfolio. It features a compact design, an IP65 rating (dust and splash proof), and simplified installation with passive Power over Ethernet (PoE) via a standard RJ45 connector. While highly affordable, its IP65 rating makes it suitable for offshore applications only when installed indoors or within a protective enclosure, shielded from direct exposure to harsh marine elements.
For applications requiring installation directly on deck or in environments exposed to weather and sea spray, the MRU Marine is the recommended solution. It features a robust IP68-rated enclosure suitable for deck mounting (and up to 50m submersion for the SW version) and offers versatile connectivity options including Ethernet, RS-232, and RS-485. While representing a higher investment than the MRU Compact, it is specifically engineered for reliable performance in demanding offshore conditions.
Both the MRU Compact and MRU Marine are available in different accuracy versions (±0.05°, ±0.02°, ±0.01° Roll/Pitch) allowing you to select the performance level that meets your specific requirements and budget. All our MRUs utilize advanced MEMS technology and sensor fusion algorithms, ensuring high accuracy and reliability without the need for frequent recalibration.
