What is a RJ50 or 10-wire Ethernet connector?

The MRU Compact is also available with a RJ50 connector instead of the standard RJ45 Ethernet connector.

The RJ50 connector (also called 10P10C connector) is identical in shape to the RJ45 connector but has 10 wires. The outside 2 pins on a RJ45 connector are blind but these are in use for the RJ50 connector.

The advantage of using the RJ50 connector is that we can have one additional interface on the connector, besides Power & Ethernet:

  1. Ethernet & RS-232
  2. Ethernet & 4-wire RS-485
  3. Ethernet & PPS time sync

Warning: Never use a RJ45 connector with an MRU Compact RJ50. Use the RJ50 connector and cable that will be provided with the MRU. It will look like it fits but will damage the connector. This is due to the 2 outside blind pins in the RJ45 connector.
