The 6000 series, with 0.02° accuracy in Roll & Pitch, is our most versatile MRU due to its high accuracy and is suitable for most applications. This is the recommended MRU for most control applications such as AHC and winch control.
The 3000 series, with 0.05° accuracy in Roll & Pitch, is ideal for Most monitoring applications where the main purpose is to collect motion data for analysis or decision making, such as helideck monitoring systems. Some instrument compensation applications such as wave radars and wind lidar buoys. Active heave control (AHC) for winches on smaller vessels with short lever arms to the remote monitoring points

Precise motion measurements are essential for vessel digitalisation, supporting fuel optimisation, route planning, cargo safety and structural health.

Dynamic positioning (DP) of vessels necessitates roll and pitch compensation of the GNSS antenna to ensure accurate positioning of the ship's control point.

Subsea surveys often demand precise tilt measurements (roll and pitch) for various purposes, such as installation tasks or continuous monitoring of tilt changes and deflections in subsea structures.

An Inclinometer measures static tilt relative to gravity using accelerometers. It’s ideal for stationary applications but not suitable for dynamic environments due to its inability to compensate for motion or vibration.

Here is a buttonA gyrocompass determines true north using gyroscopes and Earth's rotation, not magnetism. It’s essential for heading accuracy in marine and aerial navigation, though performance may vary at extreme latitudes.

Norwegian Subsea works closely with customers to ensure each sensor is configured to meet specific application needs across marine, subsea, offshore, and industrial environments.
Motion monitoring is a cornerstone of safety, operational efficiency, and asset protection in the offshore industry: whether on vessels, platforms, or subsea equipment.
Norwegian Subsea’s Motion Reference Units (MRUs) are designed to deliver real-time data through a combination of high-end MEMS sensors, advanced sensor fusion algorithms, and onboard data processing systems.
An Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) is an electronic device that uses accelerometers and gyroscopes, and sometimes magnetometers, to measure and report an object's linear acceleration and angular velocity.
A Vertical Reference Unit (VRU) is an advanced device that measures the attitude of an object, specifically its Roll and Pitch.
